Don’t Stomp The Ants

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have been anxious to write this entry ever since I found this quote.

ant antMany people concentrate on ant stomping when they should concentrate on elephant hunting,” says Peter Turla, president of The National Management Institute, a time-management consulting company in Flower Mound, Texas. “When you focus on stomping ants, you confuse activity with accomplishment. You’re going for the small, insignificant tasks that are easy to do.”

#1 Ant StomperI doubt if Peter Turla was specifically talking about the Internet but I think his statement is particularly appropriate to the Internet.

It is so easy to get distracted or occupied by tasks that don’t produce income on the Internet, that it can, probably will, keep you from making money. Remember in a previous post, I suggested that you take a calendar and figure out when you can work on your Internet business. Let’s say on Tuesday, you have 2 hours to work on your business.

What are you going to do during those 2 hours?

  • Read email
  • IM with friends
  • Check out new opportunities
  • Talk on the phone
  • Surf the net

Are those ants or elephants?

I believe most of those are ants. There is some email that is related to your business, there is some IM’ing that is business, there is some surfing that is business. But none of these is the elephant.

What is the elephant?

Advertising is the elephant. If you do not advertise, you won’t have a business. Well, I guess I should say you won’t make any money. If you don’t make any money, are you still going to be interested? Are you going to stay motivated or are you going to look for a new business that will make you money?

In real estate, it is “location, location, location”. On the Internet, it is “advertise, advertise, advertise”. When you sit down for those 2 hours on Tuesday, your #1 priority is advertising.

Making money on the Internet is a numbers game. You have to get your opportunity in front of 1000’s, 10,000’s of people find a taker. There are lots of advertising options which I will discuss in future posts here. But the first thing you need to do on Tuesday is advertise. Once all the advertising is done, do the other things that are needed for your business.

  • Send welcome emails or call new downline members
  • Surf traffic exchanges to get credits for advertising
  • Read emails that give you credits to advertise
  • Write a blog to help you advertise (be careful don’t put more the 25% advertising)
  • Use social networks to make contacts and build trust

But always advertise first or your 2 hours will be gone and no advertising will be done.

I have made this a lot longer than I intended.

Just remember, go elephant hunting. Don’t stomp the ants.
