One Byte at a Time = More Internet Income

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Now that you hunt elephants, it is time to take your first byte. Today, I would like to talk about being organized. I thought about treating this as an ant, but I finally decided being organized is more appropriate as a full post. Not being organized, will eventually cost you time which will cost you Internet income, believe me I know. As you will discover, the longer you are involved with Internet marketing, the bigger the elephant becomes. If you are not organized, you will waste time that would be better used advertising.

As you advertise, you will start using more and more sites to maximize your exposure.  You will start using more and more advertising methods.  How many methods can you think of?

Here are some of the more common advertising methods

  • traffic exchanges
  • email services
  • classified ad sites
  • ezines
  • blogs
  • your own websites

disorganized

These will all have urls, user ids and passwords. If you don’t have an organized method to keep track of all this information, you will spend lots of time finding it when you need it. Your computer will quickly look like the desk in the picture. (Mine was almost that bad.) For an example, let’s say you are going an email ad for the widget program.

What do you need?

  • The affiliate url for the program
  • Pre-written ad if available from Widgets web site
  • Your own ad
  • Several Url’s, User ID’s, and passwords for the email sites you are going to use

This is the minimum. There easily could be more. Think about how much time you could spend looking for all that information if it is not organized and you have to hunt around for it on your computer or desk. There are many ways to get organized. I am sure you have all your friends emails and phone numbers organized so you can find them easily. Why wouldn’t you do the same thing with your computer information?

You can keep the information written down in a notebook with different pages for different activities. This works.  You just have to type in the information when you need it. This takes a while and is subject to typos.

Another thing you can do is create separate email folders for different things. You could have a folder for traffic exchanges, advertising sites, blogs, payment processors, etc. When you join a program, they usually send you an email with your user ID, password and referral url. When you receive this email, move it to the appropriate folder. You can even get more sophisticated by putting folders in folders.  This method definitely helps and makes it easier to find things. It allows you to double click or copy and paste urls for access avoiding typos.

Most browsers have the capability to remember your user ID and password after you login the first time. This is more efficient than the notebook method. Plus you are less likely to make a typo. You could go a step further and use bookmarks, organized in folders of course, to store the urls. All the browsers I use have functionality to remember your ID and password. This method is pretty efficient. The one draw back to this method is you need to back up the information. I am sure there is a way to back up your bookmarks and login information. I never figured out how to do it but I didn’t look too hard because I found RoboForm.

RoboForm is the best method I have found. RoboForm remembers the url, user id, password, and anything else required to login, except turning numbers of course, for all the sites you access. Plus, you can organize them into folders. (RoboForm also has the ability to fill forms for you as well. We will talk more about that later.) The biggest difference to me between what RoboForm does and what browsers do is that I can be logged into a site with one click with RoboForm. I haven’t figure out a way to do that with a browser. I think RoboForm is very reasonably priced at $29.95 one-time or $39.95 one-time for the portable version. You can try it for free for 30 days to see how you like it. I would highly recommend that you at least give it a try.

I have said enough for now. I would like to leave you with a quote from Albert Einstein,

Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.
